A century of
history, mountain-deep
Maloulskoye Reservoir is a man-made mountain lake at 1,600–1,800 metres, formed by two dams built in the early 20th century by prisoners of war and Gulag labourers.
Crystal-clear water, larch forest, mountain ridges — and a story woven into every stone. The road there passes through abandoned villages founded long before Ridder existed.

2 or 3 days
in the mountains
During World War II the reservoir powered the city and its water supply. Ridder supplied lead for ammunition across the front. The first dam still stands — walk it and feel the scale of another era.
The reservoir was created artificially by two dams. The road passes through ghost villages with frontier histories — remarkable monuments to the region's early settlement.
The road is moderate difficulty — challenging enough to feel real, safe enough for everyone. An overnight camp on the lakeshore — dinner by the fire, mountains in the water — is what people remember long after.
